Liam Maybank

Liam Maybank and Kate Allan were the fastest male and female riders respectively at the Maidenhead & District 15-mile time trial in Berkshire on Saturday afternoon.

Twickenham CC’s Liam Maybank took first place in 32-40, with Tobias Nilsson of Kingston Wheelers CC second in a time of 35-01 and Nikola Peric (Clapham Chasers) recording 35-57 to take third place.

Team Bottrill’s Kate Allan was the quickest woman in 36-18, while Hayley Rigby of Giant Camden Team Liv was second in 38-42 ahead of RT PODA’s Pippa O’Brien in 50-21.

The fastest two-up pair was father and son duo of Joe Schvartz (Team Swindon Cycles) and Leigh Schvartz (Oxford Tri) in a time of 36-47.

Riders enjoyed sunny conditions, with a strong easterly wind of up to 20mph offering benefit near the start but causing problems at the back of the course, with blustery crosswinds making the final 1.5 miles proving particularly challenging.

Starting on the drift road near New Lodge, the 15-mile course heads towards the roundabout at Hawthorn Hill and up the hill before bearing left towards Cranbourne, turning left again to complete the circuit then heading to Hawthorn Hill and finishing just past the entrance to Winkfield Plain Farm.

Kate Allan

Maybank, completing his first event of the season, began it in perfect fashion and the 49-year-old will look to continue his form at the 15-mile Paceline RT (Sporting) on Saturday March 26.
