Day and Dowling battle to victories in Redditch Road & Path CC 10

Redditch Road & Path CC 10, while Rachel Dowling (Cheltenham & County Cycling Club) won the women’s event.

Day, aged 52, recorded a winning time of 21 minutes and 37 seconds on the brand new K34/10F course.

Starting at Flyford Flavell riders quickly joined the A422 heading west out towards Worcester and take on the short and steep climb at Upton Snodsbury.

Riders turned for home at the roundabout near Spetchley Park before retracing their steps with a long climb back up to Upton Snodsbury and finishing just after the turn for Flyford Flavell.

On his last outing Day finished seventh in the Sportzmad 25 clocking 51-20 and over the shorter distance he took victory.

Jon Howard finished just 18 seconds behind his Team Echelon team-mate completing a one-two for the team with a time of 21-55.

Meanwhile, a close battle for third saw junior rider Joe Brookes (Halesowen A&CC) finish in 22-10 which was 16 seconds quicker than team-mate Joe Homer.

In the women’s event Dowling took victory completing the 10-mile course in a time of 31-51.

On her only other open time trial outing Dowling finished third in the FTP Racing 10 in 32-56 but on this occasion she went over a minute faster to take victory.

Race organiser Lezley Moran (Redditch Road & Path CC) was the only other woman competitor taking second in 32-56.
