Ben Williams (GS Mossa) came out on top in the a3crg 15-mile time trial near Petersfield, while Jennifer George (The Independent Pedaler - Nopinz) was faster than the rest in the women’s event.

Williams picked up the win in a time of 29:27 to fend off competition, led by Andy Langdown (Atlas Clever RT), he clocked a time of 29:47. The final podium spot was claimed by Paul Jones (Primera-Teamjobs) who was just a few seconds behind, finishing with a time of 29:53.

Williams was coming off the back of a 90-mile ride the day before, and was in good form coming into the event, having won twice in his last five open events and finishing on the podium in two of the remaining three in that period. This event marks his third victory in the last two months.

In the women’s event Jennifer George outclassed the field and got herself on top of the podium with a time of 31:35, which was nearly three minutes quicker than any other woman riding in the event.

Second place went to Claire Emons (Newbury RC) in 34:12 while topping the podium off was Marianne Holt (Fareham Wheelers) who clocked in at 35:21.

George had also been in good form leading into this event, winning the two events she participated in leading up to this event, both of which coming the week before this 15. This ride marked a third consecutive victory for the 38-year-old.

On a day that was expected to produce some record times it was not to be as the weather took that away from the riders. There were a few club records broken though, one of which coming from Claire Emons who finished second overall in the women’s event.

81-year-old John Murphy (Gloucester City Cycling Club) was keen to come out to break the national record for his age category also but again, due to the windy and damp weather, it was not to be. Nevertheless he completed his ride and finished the course in 42:53. Given the fact that he was up at 2am, that is some achievement.
