David Huck

David Huck (Barrow Central Wheelers) took victory in the Rossendale RC 10.3-mile time trial near Bolton-by-Bowland, while Amy Gornall (Pro-Noctis - Redchilli Bikes) battled to the win in the women’s event.

Huck had previously been unable to finish on the podium this season but he was able to turn that around this time out as he led the field and won with time to spare, clocking in at 24:28.

Fraser Martin (Synergy Cycles) and Jonny Hill (Barrow Central Wheelers) were the two riders that trailed the winner to finish off the podium, Martin coming in at 24:42 and Hill finishing in 25:13.

33-year-old Huck claimed his highest placed finish of the season, having only been able to boast a seventh as his previous best of 2021. His last win came in October 2019 where he won a hill climb event.

Martin had finished on the podium in every open event that he had participated in prior to this and he continued that run, coming in second. Veteran Jonny Hill was yet to claim a podium finish this season until now, in fact this was his first podium finish on record in open events. His best before this event was a sixth-placed finish in June 2019.

In the women’s event it was Gornall that took the top spot, finishing the course in 26:59, just eight seconds quicker than her nearest rival.

Joanna Blackburn (Team Bottrill) was that rival, clocking in at 27:06 for second, and Charlotte Boothman (Team Lusso) followed with a time of 27:31 to claim the final spot on the podium.

This finish secured back-to-back podium finishes for Gornall who was absent from event participation in 2020, two impressive finishes given a long time out of competition.

The L112 course begins on Hellifield Road and continues north along said road before a left turn that occurs at Ribble Valley, near Paythorne. Riders continue towards Wigglesworth to a T-junction at Settle road where they are to turn left and proceed south via Forest Becks to the next T-junction where it is another left turn and then ride to the finish.
