Hayley Simmonds

Hayley Simmonds (CAMS Racing) broke her own road bike competition record on her way to victory in the Ross-on-Wye & Dist CC 10, while Christopher Gibbard (Bynea Cycling Club) won the men’s event.

Simmonds, aged 32, set a new road bike competition record time of 20-53 in last weekend’s Lea Valley CC 10 but lowered her mark by 19 seconds to win in South Wales.

The R10/17 saw riders compete on the out and back A40 dual carriageway heading out to Raglan before returning to the finish.

Simmonds, from St Neots in Cambridgeshire, was part of the winning National Team Time Trial Championship winning side but showed her form individually on her road bike to win on this occasion.

Jessica Rhodes-Jones (AeroCoach) won the Merlin Classic Series sixth round on her last outing, but despite having the advantage of a time trial bike had to settle for second this time out in 20-54.

Megan Dickerson (Škoda DSI Cycling) has also been on fine form this season with a host of wins to her name but was pushed into third this time out in 21-00.

Chris Gibbard

Emma Wyatt (Hereford & Dist Whs CC) was fastest veteran on scratch in 22-45 while Claire Greenwood (Bush Healthcare CRT) was quickest veteran on standard with +07:00 and was crowned VTTA South Wales Women's Champion.

Meanwhile, in the men’s event scratch rider Gibbard blew away his competition by breaking the 19-minute mark with a winning time of 18 minutes and 56 seconds.

Gruffudd Lewis (Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling) won the Bynea CC 10 on his last outing but was beaten on this occasion finishing second in 19-25 finishing just six seconds ahead of David Medhurst (Cardiff Ajax CC) (19-31).

Anthony Jones (VMCC powered by Y Beic) was quickest veteran on scratch clocking 19-45, while Stuart Evans (Port Talbot Wheelers CC) was the VTTA South Wales Men's Champion with a +06:17 on standard.

The fastest men's road bike was Joe Beech (Preston Wheelers) who finished in a time of 20-30.

Meanwhile, the fastest club was AeroCoach with a combined time of 1-00-02 narrowly beating Cardiff AJax CC.
