Professional rider Harry Tanfield (Team Qhubeka Assos) took victory by over a minute and a half in the Hartlepool CC/VTTA 25 in North Yorkshire, while Sophie Lankford (Jadan CycleSpace- Vive Le Velo) won the women’s event.

26-year-old Tanfield, from Great Ayton near Middlesbrough, won the Hartlepool CC/VTTA 10 earlier this season and took his second win of the season in a time of 48 minutes dead.

Despite not feeling at his best and battling an eight miles per hour wind 26-year-old Tanfield was a clear victory averaging over 31.25 miles per hour.

The T252/3 course saw riders start and finish in Crathorne before completing an out and back course on the A19 turning at Knayton.

Last time Tanfield competed on the T252/3 was three years ago in the Stockton Wheelers CC 25 which he won in 45-36.

Despite being slower on this occasion Tanfield was comfortably the winner ahead of Marcel Schubert (Darlington Cycling Club) who clocked 50-28.

Kris Atkin (Team Kirkley Cycles) completed the podium positions finishing third in 51-16.

Quickest veteran on scratch was Robert Noble (Cycleways) who clocked 52-43 ahead of Keith Murray (Drag2Zero) in second (53:32) while Sean Sanders (Drighlington BC) finished third in 55-52.

Russ Richardson (Teesdale CRC) was quickest veteran on standard with his time of 56-13 equating to +15:40 ahead of Murray with a +13:35

“I won the event three years ago, but my legs were significantly worse today,” said Tanfield.

“My legs were hurting after one kilometre and at the end. I was surprised to win as I seem to going over 48 kilometres an hour.

“I was just in a world of pain and it never felt easy at any point. I’ve just got to the end of a big two weeks of training and I thought I had freshened up. I have now got a racing block at the start of July with the Tour of Romania and Belgium.”

Meanwhile, in the women’s event Sophie Lankford (Jadan CycleSpace- Vive Le Velo) took her second open time trial victory of the season and was four minutes faster than her nearest rival.

Lankford, aged 25, also won the Hartlepool CC/VTTA 10 on her last outing clocking 24-40 on that occasion.

This time out Lankford’s winning time of 1-00-41 saw her record an average speed of over 24.7 miles per hour.

Veteran Karen Taylor (Team Sportslab) led the chase behind and was second overall in 1-04-45 ahead of fellow veteran Sarah Foulds (Velo Culture) in 1-05-39.
