Veteran Liam Maybank (Twickenham CC) clinched his first victory of the season in the Alton CC/Owens Cycles 10, while Angela Carpenter (...A3crg) won the women’s event.

Maybank, from Claygate in Surrey, finished second in the Newbury RC 10 earlier this season but went one better on this occasion in a time of 19 minutes and 35 seconds.

Conditions were described as overcast for the event on the H10/8 which saw riders start near Farnham, on the Surrey border, and race along the A31 to Alton before making the return journey.

An easterly wind hampered times slightly with a headwind on the return leg to Farnham on a course which has several lumps to challenge riders.

Just 23 seconds behind winner Maybank was Eddie Allen (Redmon CC) who recorded a season-best time of 19-58 for second place.

A close battle for third saw three riders separated by just nine seconds headed by veteran Alan Murchison (Drag2Zero) in 20-07.

Meanwhile, in the women’s event Carpenter, from Chichester, added another victory to her growing list in a time of 21-07.

Carpenter, aged 52, won the VTTA 50 last weekend in a personal best of 1-46-32 and showed her speed over the shorter distance on this occasion.

After finishing third in the junior National Circuit Championships earlier this month Eva Callinan (Liv AWOL) continued to impress with a second placed finish in 22-04.

Completing the podium positions was Anna Dwyer (Drag2Zero) who finished third in 23-12.
