Richard Sharp

Richard Sharp (Chapeau! Vive Le Velo) returned to winning ways in the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 15, while Claire Jessop (Otley CC) won the women’s event by a single second.

On his last time out Sharp, from Hayton, placed second in the National 12 hour Championship but showed his power over the shorter distance to take his fourth victory of the season clocking 31 minutes and 12 seconds.

The V226 saw riders compete on the A168 between Boroughbridge and Walshford starting and finishing on Arkendale Road.

Sharp, aged 39, has also taken victories in the Dukinfield CC 10, Yorkshire Cycling Federation 50 and Vive le Velo 20 events this season and added another win to his tally this time out.

Leading veteran rider Mark Wolstenholme (Swift Racing) won the Otley CC 25 earlier this month but had to settle for second on this occasion in 31-51.

Fellow veteran Anthony Ashworth (Wetherby Whs) completed the podium positions finishing third in 33-19.

“I knew it was going to be tough after two weeks off racing after the National 12 Hour,” said Sharp.

“I have done a bit of riding and didn’t feel too bad during a few rides in the week. My time is not where I was hoping it would be, but I’m pleased to take the win as I wasn’t sure that I was going too.”

The women’s event could not have been closer with just a single second separating the top two riders.

Veteran rider Jessop won the intriguing battle with her time of 41-03 enough to add another win to her tally for the season, also winning on her last outing in the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 10.

Sandra Burrows (Vive Le Velo) was the unfortunate loser in the battle for top spot just a second behind Jessop in 41-04.

Meanwhile, Susan Sanders (Drighlington BC) completed the top three positions a further 31 seconds behind in 41-35.
