Adam Duggleby (Chapeau! Vive Le Velo) was pleased to get his season underway with a win at the Bramley Wheelers 10, while teenager Lucy Ellmore (Crimson Orientation Marketing) won the women’s event.

Duggleby, aged 36 and from Leeds, won two events last season and finished third in the National 100 Mile Championships.

The Chapeau! Vive Le Velo was the only rider to break the 21-minute barrier on the lumpy V314 with a winning time of 20 minutes and 53 seconds.

The course saw riders start on the A162 before heading south through Towton and Barkston Ash before following the road to the turn at Sherburn-in-Elmet.

The lumpy return leg back north saw riders head back up the A162 before turning before Towton to the uphill finish on the B1217.

Duggleby finished second three times last season and also recorded a third, so was glad to get a win in his opening race of 2021.

“It went pretty well, it was bit cold but I was pretty happy to win on my first race back,” said Duggleby. “Last season I was going to races and losing by five seconds so it was good to actually win. It seemed to keep going the wrong way last season.

“I’ve changed my bike position to what it was before. I thought my bars were too low so I put them up and went even slower. So I’ve put them down and I think my position is pretty good now.”

Leading the charge for second was 21-year-old George Peden (Team PB Performance) whose time of 21-11 was just 11 seconds quicker than leading junior Max Poole (Vive Le Velo).

In a close battle amid the juniors Oliver Peace (Team Bottrill) was second in category in 23-55 while Joshua Clough (Innovation Racing) was third (24-01).

Fastest veteran was Darren Yarwood (Chapeau! Vive Le Velo) whose time of 21-49 was good enough for sixth overall.

Stephen Feeney (Tactic Sport UK Race Team) was second veteran in 23-15 while Matthew Asquith (Team Sportslab) was third in the category a further five seconds back.

Ellmore, aged 18, won the Birdwell Wheelers hill climb last season and got her season off to a winning start with a time of 26-52.

In a close battle for victory veteran Helen Goldthorpe (Otley CC) finished second just 14 seconds behind in 27-06 while Molly Savill (Albarosa CC) was third (27-31).

Madeline Moore (TORQ Performance) was second veteran in 28-46 while Liz Ball (Valley Striders CC) was third in the category (31-22).
