Paul Hart

Paul Hart (Hart Performance Coaching) and Jackie Field (CC Ashwell) were fastest male and female riders respectively at the Eastern Counties CA 50-Mile Championships in Cambridgeshire on Saturday afternoon.

Hart, 41 and from Ramsden Heath in Essex, clocked 1-41-44 for the F2/50 course near Cambourne, taking the win by more than two minutes. Meanwhile, evergreen CC Ashwell vet Field covered the distance in 1-55-33 to take victory by 1-41 in the women’s event.

The Championship attracted 78 riders to the start, and they used the F2/50 instead of the usual E2c/50 which was out of action because of roadworks on the A11 and A14.

The course took riders through four laps of a course on the A428 dual carriageway between Caxton Gibbett and Madingley. Conditions were favourable with a modest north-westerley wind from Caxton and very little rain apart from the late finishers who suffered a heavy shower on the final leg to Madingley.

Hart took the win despite being more than seven minutes shy of his previous best, although six of the top ten men and four of the top ten women did manage to set new personal best times.

Hart’s time of 1-41-44 was 2-14 fastest than his nearest rival with Paul Pardoe (Peterborough CC) taking second and Kevin Baumber (Shaftesbury CC) third with 1-45-01.

Jackie Field

Field, 56 and from Cambridgeshire, clocked 1-55-33 to win the women’s prize from Louise Robinson (Essex Roads CC), while Lisa Hurrell (Maldon & District CC) was third, almost nine minutes further back.

Hart’s victory comes a week after he was victorious in the ECCA 25-Mile Championship on the same roads. He is next due to be in action in the East Anglian VTTA 10 on June 9.

Jackie Field, a prolific time trial rider with a string of impressive performances under her belt including second at the National 12-Hour Championships behind Alice Lethbridge as well as four consecutive wins in the veteran women’s category at the Classic Time Trial Series, is due to ride the Cambridge CC 15 next Sunday.
