There was nothing to separate Bevan Jones and Neal Parkin in the Team Sheffield 10-mile time trial, as they tied for victory on the O10/5 course near Cuckney in Nottinghamshire on Saturday.

21-year-old Jones, riding for Team Sportslab, and 41-year-old Parkin, riding for Team Bottrill, both clocked 20-34 to share the spoils.

Meanwhile the prize for fastest female went to Rebecca Lineker (South Normanton CC) with 24-04, giving her the win in that category by 24 seconds from Sarah Harrison (Sheffield Triathlon Club), with Josie Smith (Barnsley Road Club) third, another three seconds back.

Behind Parkin and Jones, third spot in the men’s category went to Liam Bromiley (Team Lifting Gear) with 20-36, who was nine seconds faster than his team-mate Eugene Cross who had to settle for fourth.

While Jones was top Espoir, there was a good ride from fellow under-23 George Wood of Cycling Sheffield whose time of 20-48 gave him fifth, and just a second further back was Nick Latimer who helped make up the winning trio in the team category for Team Lifting Gear Products/Cycles in Motion.

Starting just south of Cuckney, the O10/5 course takes riders northbound on the A60 Mansfield Road to the junction with the A619 to the east of Worksop, where they turn and retrace to a finish north of Cuckney before the River Poulter.

Jones had shown good form already this season with third place in the Birdwell Wheelers 29km event the weekend before where he was third, while he took seventh in a competitive field for the Vive le Velo 10 the weekend before.

And Parkin too has started 2021 well, having recorded an impressive 19-41 in the VTTA Notts and East Midlands 10 on April 17 where he was seventh, a placing he also secured in the VC Long Eaton 10 a fortnight earlier.

This was Rebecca Lineker’s first open time trial outing of the season so far, but she has plenty more to come having entered the Matlock CC 10 next weekend, the South Pennine RC 25 the weekend after and another Matlock CC midweek 10 on June 1.
