Chris Fennell

The Independent Pedaler – Nopinz continued a strong weekend showing with Christopher Fennell and Jennifer George taking the men’s and women’s victories in the Catford CC 10.

Fennell won the previous day in the Medway Velo Club 10 and went two minutes faster in the Catford CC 10 clocking a winning time of 18-05, quicker than any times he posted last season.

The 25-year-old placed second in the National Circuit Championships and showed his preparations are on track three weeks before this year’s event with the impressive weekend double.

The Q10/19 saw riders start and finish outside Tonbridge before joining the A21 on a traditional out and back course along the Tonbridge Bypass to the Morleys Roundabout.

Conditions for the early starters were good with a dry morning and little wind. However for the late starters, including Fennell, the heavens opened making for wet and cold conditions.

As he did the previous day Nicholas Fennell (Thanet RC) finished second behind his brother also improving his time from 24 hours earlier clocking 18-57 helped by starting before the rain shower.

Jennifer George

Neil Harris (Southborough & Dist. Whs) rounded off the podium positions finishing third in 19-29.

Quickest veteran on scratch was Alex Pearson (Woolwich CC) in a time of 20-24 while fastest junior was Lance Childs (trainSharp) who narrowly missed the top 10 overall placings in 20-45.

Paul Burrows (Thanet RC) was second veteran on scratch while Paul Sewell (Bigfoot CC) placed third in the age category.

Para-cyclist Paul Simmons (Abellio - SFA Racing Team) was also on form clocking a time of 22-14.

Meanwhile, Jennifer George showed that The Independent Pedaler – Nopinz will have an impressive women’s squad once again in the various national championships later this summer.

After winning the East Sussex CA 25 last month the 38-year-old continued to show her form ahead of next month’s National Circuit Championships posting a winning time of 21-15.

Pip Jenkins (Southborough & Dist. Whs) led the charge behind George taking second place in 23-19.

Meanwhile, an impressive ride for junior Sannah Zaman (Bigfoot CC) saw her finish third over in 24-03 in just her second open time trial.

Fastest veteran on scratch was Olivia Webb (Eastbourne Rovers CC) in 24-55.
