Anna Weaver

Anna Weaver and Alastair Ribbands were fastest female and male riders respectively at the Withington Wheelers 25-mile time trial in Cheshire on Saturday afternoon.

Weaver, the 36-year-old who rides for East Lancashire Road Club), was fastest woman with a time of 1-00-02 to take victory by 52 seconds from runner-up Lucy Rogers (Congleton CC), while third spot went to the University of Manchester CC’s Jasmine Holmes.

And in the men’s category Manchester Wheelers‘ Ribbands, the 38-year-old from Altrincham in Cheshire, clocked 53-36 to win by 48 seconds from Congleton CC ridal Ben Norbury, while Adrian Hughes (Seamons CC) completed the podium in third, another 58 seconds off the pace.

The event included a category for novice riders taking part in their first 25-mile time trial, and the win went to John Peasland (Buxton CC-Sett Valley Cycles) with 59-32, 37 seconds quicker than runner-up Richard Baker (Audlem CC).

A prolific rider of time trials with 14 so far this season, Ribbands was securing his second victory of the season in this Withington Wheelers event.

Alastair Ribbands

He previously win the Crewe Clarion Wheelers 16.5-mile event back in May, while he was second in the Macclesfield Wheelers and Shropshire CCA 25-mile events last month, as well as third in the Manchester and District TTA 25 on the same course as the Withington event, where he was around a minute faster.

This was Anna Weaver’s first open time trial win of the season so far, but she has been displaying some good form recently. She was second in both the Manchester and District LCA 10 and Preston Wheelers 25 in June and May respectively, as well as placing third in the Manchester BC 10, Gloucester City CC 25, West Pennine RC 10 and East Lancashire Road Club 25 earlier in the year.

She is next due in action in the Warrington Road Club 50 next Saturday, as well as the National 50-Mile Championships at the end of the month.
