Adam Duggleby (Chapeau! Vive Le Velo) made his final preparations for the Paralympic Games by charging to victory in the Pendle Forest CC 10, while Rachel Brown (Carlisle Tri Club) won the women’s event.

With less than a month until the Paralympic Games, tandem pilot Duggleby showed his form by setting a season-best time of 18 minutes and 18 seconds on his last open appearance before traveling to Tokyo.

It was Duggleby’s 12th individual open time trial win of the season but first time he has beaten the 19-minute mark over 10 miles.

The fast L1015 course saw riders start and finish near Levens in Cumbria before completing an out and back course along the A590.

Overcast conditions left some damp in the air but with the wind dying down a host of fast time were recorded with the top 12 riders all ducking under the 20-minute mark.

After being beaten into second in the National 100-mile Championships in July, Duggleby responded with wins in the B.D.C.A 100 and last week’s Manchester & District Ladies CA 10.

Duggleby went a minute and 32 seconds faster than the previous week to win in 18-18 this time out.

Phil Williams (Team Bottrill) finished second in 18-33 while Lewis Wake (Team Kirkley Cycles) also ducked under the 19-minute mark taking third in 18-58.

Quickest veteran on scratch was Douglas Watson (GTR - Return To Life) who was just 13 seconds off the podium positions finishing fifth in 19-11.

Meanwhile, in the women’s event Brown set a new personal best time of 21 minutes and 53 seconds for victory.

Brown, aged 35, had finished second on her last three outings but was not to be denied this time out with her time 56 seconds faster than her rivals.

The battle for the runner-up spot could not have been closer with veterans Kirsty McSeveney (…a3crg) and Rachel Orton (Tri Preston) both stopping the clock in 22-49 to share second place.
