Maddie Leech

Maddie Leech (PH Mas Cycling) was fastest female, while George Peden (Team PB Performance) was quickest man as North Lancashire Road Club staged their Easter Saturday 10-mile time trial.

Leech, the 17-year-old from Huddersfield, clocked 22-42 to take the women’s prize of £50 plus the Christine Goodfellow Memorial Trophy. Just 11 seconds slower was Rebecca Rimmington (Team Merlin) in second, while Sammie Stuart (Crimson Orientation Marketing) was third, another 46 seconds off Leech’s pace.

Originally from Ballymoney in Northern Ireland but now studying at the University of Leeds, Peden clocked 19-33 to win the men’s category by 27 seconds from Philip Jones (Drag2Zero.com) and Kamil Waligora (East Lancs RC) who both covered the course in exactly 21 minutes.

The win meant 21-year-old Peden went home £50 richer, as well as receiving the Michael Pryce Memorial Trophy.

It was a bitterly cold morning for the full field of 120 riders – extended from an initial entry of 90 because so many were keen to ride the early season post-lockdown race.

In other categories the prize for fastest junior went to Emma Jeffers (JRC Shutt Ridley RT) who clocked 26-12, while Rossendale CC took the team prize, their top trio of Patrick Hickey, Mark Berry and Tony Bowler recording a total time of 1-07-59.

John Morgan covered the course in 21-58 to finish as fastest veteran aged 40-44, while the 45-49 prize went to Derek Parkinson with 21-27.

Dan Shackleton’s time of 21-44 gave him the 50-54-year-old veterans’ prize, while Paul Fleming was quickest of the 55-59 riders with 23-19.

Andrew Greenhalgh won the 60-64 category in 24-12, while a time of 26-08 gave Derek Schofield the 65-69 prize.

David Rundall’s time of 24-34 gave him the 70-74-year-old veterans prize, while John Leech was best over-75 with 32-58.

The popular L101 Garstang course takes riders on the A6 Preston-Lancaster Road from north of Garstang up to the turn at Hampson Green, where they head back south.
