Healey and Rhodes-Jones are victorious in VTTA Midlands 15

Under-23 rider Ben Healey (Team HUUB) took victory by over four minutes in the VTTA Midlands 15, while Jessica Rhodes-Jones (Aero Coach) was women’s victor.

Under-23 rider Healey, who is Irish National Road Race Champion and Irish Under-23 Time Trial Champion was taking part in his first open Cycling Time Trials event since 2019.

He was in emphatic form in Worcestershire clocking an average speed of over 30.52 miles per hour finishing in a time of 29 minutes and 29 seconds.

The looped course saw riders start outside Welland and travel south down the B4208. Riders then turned east on the A438 before turning back north onto the B4211 towards Upton-upon-Severn and then west to the finish.

A close fight for second saw B Xavier Disley (AeroCoach) finish in 33-38 just four seconds ahead of leading veteran Tim Wood (Team Echelon).

Fellow veteran Simon Adcock (Worcester St Johns CC) had to settle for fourth overall (33-48) ahead of third veteran on scratch Jon Howard (Team Echelon) who clocked 34-04.

Rhodes-Jones finished 10th in the National 10-mile Championships last season and got her season off to a perfect start winning in 35-38.

Nicola Juniper (Team Echelon) was riding her first open time trial since 2019 and led the challenge taking second place in 36-12, on a road bike.

Under-23 rider Gabriella Homer (Rupelcleaning Champion-Lubricants) won the fight for third with her time of 38-02 just 16 seconds quicker than leading veteran Denise Burrows (AeroCoach).

Catherine Coley (VC de Londres) was second veteran woman (39-04) while Emma Bexson (Stratford Cycling Club) took third in 40-09.

Fastest junior woman was Kinga Ingram (Storey Racing) who recorded an average speed of 22.43 miles per hour on her way to setting a time of 40-07.
