Carol Milne and Roland Kiraly were victorious at the Witham Wheelers 25-mile time trial in Lincolnshire on Saturday afternoon.

Kiraly, the 34-year-old Velo-One Cycling Time rider, clocked 52-57 to win by a minute and a half from Gareth Pym (Team Bottrill), while Karl Baillie (Witham Wheelers) was another 26 seconds back in third spot.

And in the women’s event it was 54-year-old Carol Milne of the promoting Witham Wheelers who took the win in 1-11-16, which was just over a minute quicker than the next best woman, team-mate Tracey George.

The event used the C25/22 course which starts just south of the village of Silk Willoughby, and heads down through Aswarby and Osbournby, before turning east towards Donington and retracing.

Kiraly is not a regular on the time trial scene, with just two other open events under his belt this season. He was third in the Spalding CC 18 in April, and fourth in the Lincolnshire RRA two-up 18.3 alongside Matt Elworthy. He is due to ride the Lincoln Wheelers 10 next weekend.

Below the podium places, fourth spot went to Anthony Jackson (Nottingham Clarion) with 56-03, while Eddie Humphreys (Loughborough Phoenix CC) was 19 seconds back in fifth.

And in the women’s event, Milne and George were followed by Louise George (Witham Wheelers) in third who was another 44 seconds behind, while their Witham team-mate Julie Clark was fourth fastest female.

Geoff Platts (Team Bottrill) was the fastest veteran on standard with 57-23, while the team prize went to Witham Wheelers with Karl Baillie, Adam Egner, Reece Egner combining for a total of 2:44:05.
