James Garrett (Rugby Velo) and Linda Hubbard (Welland Valley CC) were fastest male and female riders respectively at the Rugby RCC 10-mile time trial in Warwickshire on Saturday.

Garrett, the 25-year-old Rugby Velo rider, clocked 21-21 to take overall victory by five seconds from Nick Cave (Team Lutterworth Cycle Centre), while another seven seconds back was Paul Guest (Worcester St Johns CC) in third.

And in the women’s event victory went to 53-year-old Leicester-based rider Hubbard, the Welland Valley CC ace clocking 25-17.

The course took riders from the start near Thurlaston along the A45 to the turn at Ryton-on-Dunsmore, before heading back down and finishing just beyond the start point.

In other categories the top veteran on standard was Andy Hazell (Nova Raiders CC) with 23-53 which gave him a plus of 5-27, while the winning trio in the team prize was Paul Guest, Martin Stanley and Rikky Hughes of Worcester St Johns CC who totalled 1-08-25.

Early heavy rain prompted many riders to call in their apologies, although the rain had eased prior to the 2pm start time and by 3pm it had stopped totally.

Outside of the top three, fourth spot went to Paul Armstrong (B38-Cycles in Motion) who clocked 21-41, and ten seconds behind him in fifth was Mark Bottrill (Team Bottrill).

Garrett’s victory was his first open victory this season according to his CTT profile, although he has two top ten placings so far in the Royal Sutton CC 10 where he was fifth on the same course as this Rugby RCC event, as well as sixth in the Leicester Forest CC 50 last month.
