Kate Giddings powered to an impressive victory in the Chester Road Club 50 while Graham Kemp threatened to break a D50/3r course record in the event in Shropshire.

Kemp (Team Bottrill) blazed his way around the course near Prees, stopping the timekeeper’s watches on 1-46-48 in “near perfect conditions”.

“Kemp’s time was very quick for the course we were on and may be, or very close to, a new course record – but I can’t confirm that just yet,” said organisers.

The last man out, Derek Parkinson (Springfield Financial RT) couldn’t mount a strong enough challenge to Kemp and fell short by 4-21 but managed to claim second place with a time of 1-51-09.

Parkinson has a sole win to his name for the 2018 season and made it two second-place finishes in his last two starts.

Toby Williams (Liverpool Phoenix CC) time of 1-51-51 helped secure a podium spot for only the third time this year for Williams.

Kate Giddings’ (Liverpool Century RC) season started off with a string of podiums without a win but her form has took a step up over recent months as she claimed her sixth win in her last 10 open time trials.

Giddings’ time of 2-05-29 saw her beat off the competition by exactly two minutes.

Deb Hutson-Lumb (Nova Raiders CC) couldn’t capitalised on some good form to make it back-to-back wins in time trialling, having to settle for second place with a time of 2-07.29  after winning last weekend’s North Shropshire Wheelers 25.

Cathy Atkinson (Manchester Triathlon Club) capped off the podium spots with a time of 2-12-46.

George Elliot (Innovation Racing) was the fastest junior of the day after crossing the line in 1-56-02 despite a spill in the 47th mile, doing well to regather himself and post a respectable time.
