Andy Jackson

Andy Jackson and Anna Weaver were the senior men’s and women’s winners at the Yorkshire RC 50 on Sunday morning.

In a change from the original schedule, the race took place on the V251 course starting in Dishforth, as opposed to V259/1, with the 58 starters in the day having to contend with a mixed bag when it came to the conditions.

It was a good race for the top two spots in the men’s competition, with Andy Jackson coming out on top.

The SSLL Racing Team rider stopped the clock on 1:46.55 to claim victory by 37 seconds.

The 42-year-old from Finedon, Northamptonshire, has had a good season with several podiums and wins at the Newbury 12 hour to his name as well as the Real Team 25 just last month.

It was another form rider that made the top two, that was Leeds’ Adam Duggleby (Vive Le Velo) who finished his 50 miles in 1:47.35.

There was a five-minute gap to the next best finisher, that was Steve Ayres from Bingley. The Bronte Wheelers man completed the course in 1:52.48, Dave Bramley (Team Swift) just missing out on the podium in fourth, 20 seconds adrift.

It was not all bad news for Bramley with the top four finishers all in the money and along with Blaine Metcalf and Mark Wolstenholme, he secured the team competition victory, the trio posting a cumulative time of 5:44.51.

Anna Weaver

A dominant display from Anna Weaver saw her take another victory in the women’s competition for Manchester Tri Club.

Weaver stopped the clock in 2:06.48, a performance good enough for a huge winning margin in excess of seven minutes.

Weaver was 11th at the national 10 mile championship last weekend, and has wins at the Manchester & District 25, Wigan Wheelers 25 and Warrington RC 10 to her name in the last two months alone.

Kirsty Bramley (Team Swift) from York was second, she in turn had a margin of over eight minutes from Lisa Hurrell (Maldon & District CC), who completed the top three.

Meanwhile, there were four veteran’s prizes on offer, grouped A through D in terms of age, and amongst the winners were Michael Schofield (Clifton CC) in group B with an impressive 1:57.03 and Cliff Beldon (Selby CC) who took the group D award in 2:18.17.
