Thanet RC rider Chris Fennell took his tally to 18 open wins for the season when he claimed victory at his home club’s 10-mile event on Sunday, with Nicola Goodban taking the women’s prize.

There were 82 finishers on the Q10/30 course, comprising of a ride down the A299 Thanet Way, starting and ending just east of Hearn Bay.

Once again, 21-year-old Fennell was untouchable with a sub-twenty-minute performance, stopping the clock at 19.30.

Older brother and teammate Nicholas Fennell was second, some 55 seconds behind, with Dean Chiddention taking third.

41-year-old Chiddention (Abellio-SFA) clocked 20.56, giving him a podium finish by a single second and also the honour of fastest veteran.

As for the top two, it was a repeat performance of last weekend’s Catford CC 25, with the younger of the pair of brothers again coming out on top.

Chris’ catalogue of 2017 victories have come across a range of distances, notably a clean sweep of the 10, 25, 50 and 100-mile events hosted by Kent CA.

The Fennell brothers, along with Mike Kirkness, were the fastest team of the day. All three placed inside the top ten, as did the Abellio SFA trio of Chiddention, Mark Baker and Mike Piper, but the host club were victorious with a time of 1:01.21.

Completing the collection of wins for host club Thanet RC was Nicola Goodban, as she claimed victory in the women’s competition.

A time of 24 minutes dead gave her a 35 second winning margin over Charmaine Pullen of Adalta Cycling Club.
