Brian Fogarty and Anna Weaver were victorious as Wigan Wheelers hosted their 25-mile charity event on Sunday.

It was the L2521a circuit surrounding Tarn Farm Airfield on the West Coast that played host to the competition, and despite the light winds making the coastal stretch tricky, the weather was largely good and mild.

In the men’s competition, it was Brian Fogarty (Fogarty Insurance Tri Team) that claimed the win, the only rider to go under 56 minutes.

The Blackburn-based rider stopped the clock in 55.38, recording a winning margin of 39 seconds, to claim another victory after his Southport CC 25 triumph last month.

Tony Greenhalgh (Onimpex Bioracer RT) finished second, he held of the challenge of scratch rider David Turner (Cleveleys Road Club), who was just three seconds behind to complete the podium.

There was a good battle in the women’s competition with the top three riders separated by just 20 seconds, but it was Anna Weaver that came out on top.

The Manchester Tri Club rider stopped the clock in 1:02.30, adding the win to her success at the Manchester and District event over the same distance last month and a third-place finish on the fast V718 course a fortnight ago.

Erica Booth (Lancashire Road Club) was second in 1:02.46, with Charlotte Gorman just four seconds behind her for Team Lusso completing the podium.

The organisers are donating proceeds from the event to their chosen charity, the Alzheimer’s Society. Last year the competition raised around £240 pounds and it is thought that due to an increased field, this year’s edition may have topped that figure.
