David Crawley and Elinor Barker both powered to comfortable victories at the Withington Wheelers 10 on Saturday afternoon with impressive displays.

There was a change to the scheduled course made on Thursday, the riders now taking on the J6/10 due to roadworks and traffic lights on the J2/1 course at Monks Heath, with 77 riders still completing the race.

At the top of the standings was veteran David Crawley, he was the only rider to go under the 21-minute mark, doing so by a single second to claim victory.

The 41-year-old from Manchester had a 27-second winning margin, capping off a good day for his Velotik Racing Team who had three riders inside the top four.

Crawley is having a strong summer, chalking up wins at the Warrington RC 10, Seamons CC 25 and the Rhos-on-Sea 10 all in the last two months, adding this one to the collection.

Paul Cox (Giant Store Rutland/Wattbike) picked up a comfortable second place in the end, he had a 33 second gap over Crawley’s team-mate Darren Maironis.

Maironis claimed third by a single second from fellow Velotik rider David Williams, the trio comfortably the best team on the day.

In the women’s competition, Olympic track gold medallist Elinor Barker was the standout performer, claiming the prize with a commanding performance.

The 22-year-old from Wales is a multiple world champion on the track, headlined by the Olympic gold and World record in the team pursuit at the Rio 2016 Games last year.

The Matrix Pro Cycling rider is just as at home on the road, stopping the clock at 22.36 on Saturday for a winning margin of nearly three minutes and 6th place in the overall standings.

Claire Harrison (Vision Racing) was second in 25.21, with Karen Helsby (The Racing Chance Foundation) completing the top three almost two minutes further back.

Meanwhile, Francis Woodcock was the best of the young riders in the day, the Bury Clarion junior stopping the clock at 24.17.
