Chris Smart and Pamela Craig were the overall winners as Dumfries CC hosted their 25-mile event at Castle Douglas on Saturday morning.

The hilly course took the 51 finishers on the day north on the A713 near the picturesque Loch Ken to New Galloway, before returning the start finish line via the A752.

Smart (GTR) was the last rider to get his race underway and he would have to chase the time of 54 minutes flat set by Douglas Watson who set off 10 minutes earlier.

The 36-year old from Ayrshire was in fine form, as he came home in a time of 53.17 for a 43 second winning margin, with Watson (Icarus Racing) being pushed down into second but remained fastest veteran.

Smart finished 22nd in the National Championships over both the 25 and 50-mile distances, and has also claimed a podium this season at round four of the Knight Composites Classic Series.

Watson finished second by a comfortable margin, as he held nearly a two-minute advantage over Eddie Addis (RT 23) who completed the top three.

In the women’s competition, Pamela Craig of RC Cumbernauld and Kilsyth that came out on top.

33-year-old Craig from Glasgow posted a time of 1:07.09 to take the victory which gave her a winning margin of over four minutes from her nearest challenger on the day, who was Esther Hamill of host club Dumfries CC.

Craig adds this victory to her success at the VC Glasgow South 10 back in June.

Elsewhere, it was a strong performance on the day by junior rider Lewis Martin (Classic Racing Team), whose time of 59.30 saw him finish just seven seconds outside the top ten in 11th place.
