Pip Jenkins.

After finishing second to his brother 24 hours earlier, Nic Fennell (Thanet RC) tasted victory as he won the Gravesend CC 25-mile event near Challock in Kent on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Pip Jenkins made it two wins in two days, the Southborough and District Wheelers rider proving fastest woman in the Gravesend CC event to add her win in the Kent CA 10 the previous day.

Fennell clocked 53.04 for the Q25/8 course to take the win by 1-22 from David Harding (Chelmer CC). Nick Wilson (Rye and District Wheelers) was just two seconds further back in third spot, while there was again just two seconds between Wilson and fourth-placed Neil Harris (PMR @ Toachim House) in a close finish.

Jenkins was also a convincing winner in the women’s event, clocking 1-01-13 to win by 3-18 from Olivia Ross-Hurst (Full on Tri), while another five minutes back was the third-placed woman, Rye and District Wheelers’ Rebecca Wilson.

Dulwich Paragon junior Samuel Haymes clocked 1-04-52 to win that category, while the fastest tandem was the Abellio-SFA RT duo of John and Kate Bosley, who clocked 1-03-21.

And Thanet RC were the winning team, Fennell being joined in the victorious trio by Huck Garip and Scott Meeks.

The day seemed near perfect at first glance, but conditions were tougher than many thought, otherwise the course record may have been challenged.
