Liam Maybank.

Alice Lethbridge (drag2zero) and Liam Maybank (Twickenham CC) were the fastest female and male riders respectively as Blazing Saddles CC staged a 50-mile time trial in Hampshire on Sunday.

Lethbridge – the new national women’s 100-mile record holder – clocked 1-48-38 to win the women’s category by more than eight minutes, while Maybank was fastest man with 1-39-43.

Maybank’s time was good enough for victory on the day by 1-36 from Gary Chambers (Nopinz), while Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) was third, another 1-09 off the pace.

Morning rain left the early starters with wet conditions to contend with, while the later starters avoided the showers.

But the event was marred by an incident involving a rider and a van, which left the rider in hospital. All at CTT and the event organisers wish him a speedy recovery.

Maybank’s win is just the latest in a string of top performances which has seen the 45-year-old from near Esher notch up several wins already.

In May he won the AS Test Team 10, while April was a prolific month, with victories in the Addiscombe CC 25, the Kingstone Phoenix 10, the a3crg 25 and the Southern Counties CU 25. He also won the Maidenhead and District 15 back in March.
