Josh Williams.

Prolific time trial victors Josh Williams and Becky Lewis were once again amongst the winners at the Liverpool Phoenix CC 10-mile event on Saturday afternoon.

Williams, 25 and riding for Team Bottrill/HSS Hire, was one of just two riders to dip under the 20-minute mark, along with host club rider Phil Williams.

Phil Williams had not previously been defeated on the D10/1 course on Rainford bypass, that was until Saturday when he was beaten by his namesake.

Josh Williams clocked a time of 19.08, for a winning margin of 45 seconds over his Liverpool Phoenix rival.

Williams has not been off the podium this season and now has wins at four different distances in 2017, after victories at the Mid Shropshire Wheelers 25 and 50 events and claiming the first round of the Knight Composites Classic Series over 24 miles.

Andrew Martin (VCUK Velochampion RT) finished third overall, with the ‘one rider one prize’ rule meaning he claimed the best veteran on target time award.

Neil Hughes and Mark Hassall finished in a tie for fourth overall, but Martin’s win in the veterans on target category meant the pair shared third prize.

It was a keenly contested women’s competition too, with Becky Lewis coming out on top.

The 36-year-old Mid Shropshire Wheelers was fastest woman at all three over her open time trials in May, and looks set to continue that form after another good performance on Saturday.

She put in an impressive time of 22.26 to claim another victory, a time which also saw her also place in the top ten overall.

Hot on her heels was Hannah Macdonald (Liverpool Century RC), who was just nine seconds behind in second place, also good enough for a share of 12th place in the standings.

Host team Liverpool Phoenix Cc (Aintree) were the fastest team, Phil Williams, Neil Hughes and 11th place James Meldrum posting a combined time of 1:04.07.
