Steve Ayres and Kirsty Smith were amongst the winners in the competitive field at the Drighlington BC 25 in North Yorkshire.

The course that starts and end in Dishforth, via a route up the A19 to Knayton was jam packed with 132 riders completing the course on Saturday.

And in the senior competition it was Ayres (Bronte Wheelers) that came out on top winning by a sizable margin in the end.

The 38-year-old from Bingley was amongst the later starters and he stopped the clock in a time of 50.17, putting him to the top of the standings where he would remain with a gap of over a minute and a half on the rest of the field.

Ayres has been consistently amongst the top three this season, including podiums at the Otley CC 25 and VTTA 25 last month, but he claimed the £50 top prize here.

Joel Wainman (SSLL Racing Team) finished second in a time of 51,54, the Hull man also took home the first veteran prize after holding off the challenge of third place Mark Thaxter (HD Revolutions) by just two seconds.

Wainman has rarely been off the podium, including four wins and a second place at the Yorkshire CF 25 last month.

On that day, Kirsty Smith (Team Swift) was the winner in the women’s race for Team Swift, and she was at it again on Saturday to continue her good form.

The 42-year-old veteran from York did enough to comfortably see off Nikola Matthews (Boot Out Breast Cancer) and Karen Taylor (Vertex Biemme RT) who were second and third respectively, with a time of 1 hour 40 seconds.

There was more success for Team Swift as they claimed the team prize and in actual fact had the top two teams after placing six riders in the top 13.

Dave Bramley, Mark Flannery and Mark Wolstenholme were the top trio with a combined time of 2:37.24.

Nev Martin (GS Metro). Alasdair Bruce (Yorkshire RC) and Mick Black (Springfield Financial RT) were amongst the prize winners in their respective veteran’s categories.
