Adam Kenway (Metaltek-Kuota) powered up the Beeley Moor climb in Derbyshire in an impressive time of 8:40.2 to take victory in the 22nd edition of Chesterfield Coureurs hill-climb by 20 seconds.
Although not a course record performance owing to a cross-headwind, Kenway’s time was impressive and shows his form is coming good in time for the National Championships in two weeks.
A total of 74 starters from an entry of 98 tackled the 2.31-mile climb, and there were great performances throughout the categories.
Kenway took a clear win from Kieran Savage (Team B38-Underpin Racing). Had there been a tailwind Matt Clinton’s course record of 8:17.5 would surely have been threatened.
The same could be said for the ladies winner Liz Steadman (Fusion RT) who defended her title with a time just 36 seconds short of the record.
The one record which was beaten was the team record which was destroyed by nearly two minutes with the combined efforts of Savage, Patrick Clarke and Archie Cross who underlined their credentials for taking the team prize at the national championships.
