In-form Adam Kenway (Metaltek-Kuota) stormed up the 675-yard Monsal hill-climb course, recording the second fastest time ever and taking the win in the Sheffrec CC promotion in Derbyshire on Sunday.

The 29-year-old from Belper covered the course in 1:16.5 to win by 0.2 seconds from last year’s winner Joe Clark (Envelopemaster-Giant Sheffield), while Russ Downing (JLT Condor) was third, another 1.1sec off the pace.

In perfect conditions with warm sunshine and very little breeze, Kenway was cheered up the climb by an enthusiastic crowd to take first prize of £250. Also leaving with £250 was 2015 winner Lou Bates (Veloschils Interbike) who broke the old course record with 1:42.8 to win the women’s event by almost 12 seconds.

The top four names on the results board were the same as last year, but in a different order; Clark had to settle for second, while Downing improved on fourth last time, leaving Pullar – riding on a fixed wheel - to settle for fourth this time having placed third in 2015.
