In-form Chris Fennell (Thanet RC) and Bronwen Ewing (Rye and Dist Wh) both broke the course records in Catford CC’s 25-mile time trial, staged south of Ashford in Kent on Sunday.
20-year-old Fennell clocked 51.18 to win by more than four minutes from his nearest rival, 48-year-old Nick Malins (Abellio-SFA RT), while Chris Wolton (Southborough and Dist Wheelers) completed the podium in third, just two seconds behind Malins.
And 50-year-old Ewing covered the Q25/12 course in 58.14 to win that category by almost five minutes from Pip Jenkins (Southborough and Dist Wh).
Fennell – who won the Dave Marshall Trophy for his efforts – has won numerous events this season, including the Kent CA 50-mile events in August and June, the West Kent RC 25, VTTA Kent 50 and Gravesend CC 25 in July. He also placed sixth in the National 25 and was ninth in the National 10 this year.
His time of 51.18 sliced 34 seconds from the old record held by Kevin Tye, while Ewing broke her own course record by 2-19.
Malins was the top male veteran, while the women’s veterans prize also went to Bronwen Ewing.
Thanet RC also celebrated victory in the junior category with Dan Martin clocking 56.24 and placing fifth overall, while they also won the team prize with Fennell and Martin being joined in the winning trio by Huck Garip.
