Sarah Storey (Podium Ambition-Club La Santa) equalled the women’s course record as she stormed to victory in the Warrington Road Club 50-mile time trial on the J4/16 near Goostrey in Cheshire on Saturday.

Paralympian Storey clocked 1:54.40 to equal Julia Shaw’s 2009 course record, set in the National 50 that year. Her time was good enough to give her seventh spot in the men’s event.

Charles Taylor (Team Bottrill) was the fastest rider, clocking 1:45.55 to take the overall win by nearly three minutes from David Crawley (Velotick), while David Allonby (Springfield Financial) completed the podium with third, 14 seconds further back.

Taylor led Team Bottrill to the team prize, being joined in the winning trio by tenth-placed Elliott Maynard and Jeremy Stone, while Crawley was the pick of the veterans on standard with a plus of 26.51, a minute better than Darren Maironis (Cover Your Car) in second.

The event ran smoothly for the 96 riders, although the organisers had a stressful time after two and a half miles of the course was resurfaces the day before the event. However, the road had been swept and passing traffic had also helped to shift most of the loose chippings.
