Completing the course 44 seconds ahead of his nearest rival, Ioan Smallwood was victorious in the Port Talbot Wheelers 10-mile time trial on the R10/23 near Resolven in Wales on Saturday.
The 33-year-old Cardiff Ajax CC rider clocked 21-12 for the course from Pentreclwydda to Abergarwed, Ynysgerwen and back, while joining him on the podium was Chris Gibbard, the Bynea CC rider who took second with 21-56, while Smallwood’s Ajax team-mate Graeme Boswell was third with 22-05.
Smallwood has shown good form so far this season, with third in the Ogmore Valley Wheelers’ 25 last month, where Gibbard placed just behind him in fourth. Last week, Smallwood was fourth and missed out on a podium spot in the Welsh 25-Mile Championships by just two seconds.
Chris Jones (Ride Bike Wales) was the fastest veteran on standard with 4.15, just two seconds better than 70-year-old Stuart Evans (Port Talbot Wheelers).
On actual times, third-placed Boswell was fastest 40-49 veteran, while the pick of the over-50s was Rod Hicks (Port Talbot Wheelers), while 70-year-old Evans was the fastest over-60 rider.
Hollie Labunsky (Port Talbot Wheelers) was the fastest female with 29.49, giving her the win by 1-39 from veteran club-mate Wendy Lacey.
