Philip Graves and Kelly Murphy took victories at Greystoke in Cumbria in round four of the RTTC Classic Series.

Graves looks to be unstoppable as he made it three wins on the bounce with a convincing ride and one more win will seal the title for the triathlete.

A new course hosted the fourth round on a grey morning and the Clifton CC (York) rider was once again a cut above the rest of the field, covering two laps of the 14-mile circuit in 1:04.44.

Nopinz rider Dean Robson was the next quickest of the 28 miles, finishing in 1:08.21, 3.35 slower than Graves.

Stephen Lewis of Rock to Roll Cycles had to settle for third place, 35 seconds down on Robson.

Arguably the biggest threat to Graves on the day, James Gullen, suffered a disastrous day which ruined any chance he might have had of challenging for top spot.

The Pedal Heaven rider’s chain dropped off his jockey wheels and got wedged three times during his ride, costing him precious time.

Despite the technical problems, Gullen, who has been in good form with victories in the Circuit of Pendle and a 17.51 in the City RC 10, managed to finish in fifth place with a time of 1:09.53.

Speaking after the race, Graves said: “I liked the new course, it was really good and tricky in places. It was very windy going up the second hill, which made it quite tough. At one point, I was going at 80km an hour with the wind at my back.

“I’m in training for the 50-mile Championship at the moment. It’s some way off but it’s something I’m targeting.”

Mark Turnbull (Torq Performance) won the veteran prize with a time of 33.46 and Rick Wadden (Para-T) was top paracyclist in 32.55 (adjusted).

The women’s event was held over one lap of the same 14-mile circuit that the men used and it was Kelly Murphy who took the win with a time of 38.16.

With series leader and winner of all previous three events, Claire Rose, missing round four for the Tour of Yorkshire, it presented the Boot Out Breast Cancer CC rider with a great opportunity to take victory.

Having finished in third place in the previous round, Murphy also rode the Tour of Yorkshire and completed but still felt strong enough to compete on the Sunday.

She clocked a time 43 seconds faster than that of second-placed Clare Swoboda of Starley Racing who finished in 38.59. Dooleys RT rider Linsey Curran finished third in 39.03, just four seconds behind Swoboda.

Speaking after the event, Kelly Murphy said: “Yeah, I rode the Tour of Yorkshire yesterday and I finished it. I felt OK today and it was quite a small field so I thought I’d be in with a good chance of winning and I managed to do that so I’m really pleased.”

In the junior category, Tom Roper (Beacon Wheelers) won with a time of 35.07, ahead of Jamie Holmes (Mid Shropshire Wheelers) in 36.35 and Monica Pew (Boot Out Breast Cancer CC) in 42.30.
