Veteran Keith Murray of Drag2zero.com left Woodhorn with the top prize after completing the 25-mile Newcastle Cheviot CC event.

Murray completed the course in 54.07, nine seconds quicker than second-placed Danny Greaves of GS Metro.

GS Metro had a strong showing with three riders in the top ten and it was one of their riders, Tim Wilco, who completed the podium in 54.51.

The conditions on the day were tough with wind and rain lashing the riders as they made their way around the course.

Murray said after the event: “It was one of the wettest, coldest 25s I’ve ever done. It was icy, sleety drizzle. With two and a half miles to go, I was about eight seconds down on Greaves so I turned it on in the last two miles. It was a two-lap course so we crossed each other a few times. It was a day for knee warmers and neoprene gloves!”

In the women’s category, Anna Turvey of Tyneside Vagabonds won with a superb ride in 59.30. Kerry Gowland (Team Bottrill) was second in 1:04.31 and in third was Charlotte Cooper (GS Metro) in 1:13.49.
