Gary Chambers of Fareham Wheelers took first place in the Hampshire Road Club 10 event, held in Greatham in Hampshire on Saturday.

It was Chambers’ second win of April after winning his home club event on April 2 and he beat Michael Ford of VC St Raphael to take the win.

Chambers clocked a time of 19.41 on the P881/10 course, just four seconds ahead of Ford. Chambers’ team mate James Copeland just missed out on making it a Fareham Wheelers one-two, completing a second slower than Ford.

In the women’s category, it was Sarah Matthews of a3crg who took top spot with a time of 23.21. Second was Born to Bike’s Clare Campbell-Smith in 24.37 and in third, it was Didcot Phoenix CC’s Victoria Lawson in 25.24.

Fareham Wheelers enjoyed more success in the team prize with a combined time of 59.38 and Liam Maybank of Twickenham CC was quickest veteran, seventh overall in 20.07. Fastest vet 50 was Phil Watts of North Hampshire RC in 20.56 and in the over 60 category, Robert Gilmour of Hounslow and District Wheelers won with a time of 23.04.
