Despite facing far from ideal conditions and nursing an Achilles injury, Phillip Graves was the quickest competitor at the famous V718 course for the Team Swift 10 on Saturday.

The Clifton CC rider completed in a time of 18.45, five seconds ahead of North Lancs RC veteran Steve Irwin and 20 seconds quicker than Team Elite’s Dan Evans who had to settle for third.

Irwin’s time was enough to make his fastest veteran. Jamie Holmes (Mid Shropshire Wheelers) took the junior prize in 20.27.

Rachael Elliot (Newbury RC) was fastest woman in a time of 21.05 and quickest veteran woman was Karen Ledger (Langsett Cycles RT) in 21.48. Hetty Niblett (Team Footon Velosport) was top junior woman in 22.29.

Paralympic cyclist Steve Bate and sight pilot Adam Duggleby were just three seconds off the tandem record with a time of 17.23.
