The Allen Valley Velo annual 2 stage open hill climb competition takes place on the 22nd September.
Stage 1 (MH16) - Starts at 10:00, 1.2 miles out of Whitfield on the A686 heading towards Alston. Its 4 miles long at an average gradient of about 4%, though the prevailing southwesterly winds usually make it feel much harder. https://www.strava.com/segments/10457791. The views are stunning, but you'll be too busy chewing the handlebar to notice.
Stage 2 (MH15) - Starts at 12:00, right next to the HQ at the Elks Head Pub, heading towards Keenly. 1.1 miles at an average gradient of 7%, but with some early much steeper sections touching 20%. https://www.strava.com/segments/10457831. Its a tricky one to pace and those going out too hard will pay the price later.
The event HQ is located in Whitfield Village Hall right next door to the Elks Head Pub in Whitfield. HQ will be open for sign on from about 08:30. Cakes, coffee, etc for competitors will be available on the day. The pub and the nearby Whitfield Pantry cafe will also be open for supporters.
This year we are encouraging youth entries and will be giving prizes for both genders under the age of 18. We are also encouraging entries from newbies who've never tried a hill climb, so please come and have a go.
Presentation will take place as soon as the last rider has finished and we've worked out all the prizes.
