The Scottish Borders Championships were held on the classic 22‑mile Meldons course near Peebles, a scenic route long associated with Edinburgh Road Club. The Meldons race has been running for many years and continues to go from strength to strength, attracting strong fields and consistent support.
This year saw over 80 entries, and with a few withdrawals on the day, around 70 riders took to the start line. Conditions were favourable, with light winds and only a brief rain shower.
The event was expertly organised by Edinburgh Road Club, with extensive signage and excellent marshalling throughout. A real buzz filled the HQ afterwards, with almost all riders staying on for the presentations-helped by the fact that this event also formed the final round of the Classic Series alongside the accompanying Time Trial bike category.
Racing was tight across several categories.
John Archibald took the Open win by 26 seconds from Casper Von Folsach, despite losing time due to a dropped chain.
The Female Junior race was equally close, with Seraphina Green winning by 16 seconds over Boo Williams.
In the TT bike event, Edinburgh Road Club’s own Alan Dean delivered a standout performance, taking both the Open and Veterans categories.
Winner quotes have been recorded in the following order:
