Description

Welcome to the Velo Club Walcot Hill Climb 2016.

Please take note of the following:

The course starts at the bottom of Claverton Hill, Claverton, Bath and runs uphill mostly under the cover of trees up towards The American Museum, finishing between the stone pillars before the museum entrance.

WE HAVE A NEW EVENT HQ.

Free event car parking and HQ for sign on and prize presentation etc. is located at the top of Claverton Hill.  When approaching from The Avenue (i.e. from Bath University direction) proceed past the Bath Cats & Dogs Home, you will find the HQ and car park on the left hand side through the metal ‘Green Gates' at the end of The Avenue, very top of Claverton Hill.

Please note, the event car park and HQ area is not accessible from the main entrance to The American Museum.  Their main car park is for use only by their visiting customers, do not use this for car parking for the hill climb, warm up etc.

We request you do not park along The Avenue, spaces are limited and used by the public.

There is no parking along Claverton Hill (the course), nor in Claverton village (at the bottom of the course).

For those of you who have previously attended the hill climb when we have used Bath University as our HQ, please note the university is busy with student intakes and we do not have an arrangement with them this year. The university grounds and car park are private property so unless, for example, you are a Bath University Cycling Club member (who have access to the university by way of their student attendance) we cannot give permission for riders to use the university car park etc.

Both the Bath & Cats Home and main American Museum car parks are for use by their visiting customers, do not use these for car parking for the hill climb.

Refreshments are available to purchase from the Bath Cats & Dogs Home public cafeteria (open from 11.00am to 4.00pm) and they will be welcome to receive you.

SIGN ON FROM 12:30 - FIRST RIDER STARTS AT 14.21

All competitors are to ride to the start.

Take care when exiting and entering the HQ area and proceed SLOWLY AND WITH CAUTION down Claverton Hill, keeping to the left hand side of the road.  The road is not closed and we do attract enthusiastic spectators!

As you approach the bottom of Claverton Hill take the left hand turn into the holding area and line up, single file in number order, where you will be directed by the marshals to the start line.

The A36 Warminster Road at the bottom of Claverton Hill MUST NOT be used, either for event warm up or cool down exercise, nor as a route from the sign on to the start line.

Riders and spectators are reminded that THE ROAD IS NOT CLOSED and CTT Rule 20 Observance of the Law must be adhered to at all times.

Both The American Museum and Bath Cats & Dogs Home are open to the public.

It is especially important to keep the entrance to The American Museum clear. DO NOT use this area to congregate. Please work with our marshals and any museum representative who will direct people down the hill, away from the museum entrance and assist riders who need to catch their breath after finishing and keep the area clear.

Velo Club Walcot would like to thank The American Museum, who at short notice have made their land available for the event HQ. Please help us make this year a success as that will provide us the opportunity to build the event in partnership with the museum in future years.

In the interest of your own safety, Cycling Tine Trails and the event organisers strongly advise that all riders wear a cycle helmet that meets internationally accepted safety standards.

CTT Rule 15 shall be applied: All competitors under the age of 18 years and all Juniors must wear a properly affixed cycle helmet. Helmets should conform to a recognised standard such as SNELL B95, ANSI Z90.4, AUS/NZS 2063:96, DIN 33-954, CPSC or EN 1078.

It is the responsibility of the rider (or parent or guardian if the rider is under 18 years of age) to:

(a) Select a helmet that offers protection against head injury and does not restrict the rider's vision or hearing.

(b) Ensure that the helmet is properly fitted, is undamaged and in good condition.

Following the last rider to finish, we invite competitors and spectators to attend the prize giving presentation at the event HQ.

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

Fastest Fixed/Single Speed - £10

Fastest Vet (over 40) - £10

Fastest Team - £30 (£10 per rider)

Neither Cycling Time Trials, The American Museum, Velo Club Walcot, the event organiser or event sponsors accept liability for damaged, lost or stolen items. Lock your car, secure your bike!

With thanks to our prize sponsors (Moon Sport) and Timekeepers.  Promoted for and on behalf of Cycling Time Trials under their rules and regulations.

With thanks and enjoy the day!
