Clapham Cycle

Clapham Cycle is based in South West London and was founded in 2016 with the intent of creating the most social, approachable and friendly cycling community in London. Our ride moto of “nobody gets left behind” stands us apart from other cycling clubs.

Cycling is at our core and is what brings us together. What sets us apart from other cycling clubs is our unique emphasis on the social experience and providing a warm welcome to new members of all abilities. Our calendar is therefore brimming with cycling and social activities, with the intention of providing something for everyone.

While we encourage friendly competition and some members do compete in competitive events, our club ethos is to avoid being exclusive or tribal in any way. We pride ourselves on our warm community spirit that puts friendship, mutual respect and team support at its core. Clapham Cycle strongly values every one of its members and treats anyone who attends one of its event equally; regardless of their age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

We are an extremely active club, hosting an average of 3-4 organised rides per week and 3-5 trips abroad and throughout the UK each year. Over the past three years we have grown rapidly to 160 members and are extremely proud to boast a 45:55 female to male ratio across our membership base.

Our passion for exploring the beautiful countryside together motivates us to keep fit and healthy and encourages us to continue to seek out new cycle routes to take our members on. We have a rider ability guide that we use to help newer riders identify a group ride to suit their ability; in terms of the speed and route (distance, ascent and challenge). While we work hard to help and encourage more novice cyclists progress, we also have some extremely strong and competent riders at the upper end of our ability spectrum.
