Rear Lights

As most will be aware, at the 2019 National Council AGM, the following motion was passed.

“No competitor shall be permitted to start either a Type A or Type B event unless such competitor has affixed to the rear of their machine a working rear red light, either flashing or constant, that is illuminated and in a position that is clearly visible to other road users.”

Many have asked questions about how this will operate in practice, especially with the Christmas and new year events looming.

A guidance note will be issued early in the new year.  Meantime, please note that the new regulation will not be enforced for the Christmas and new year events, i.e. it will not be enforced for any events up to and including 01 January 2020.

Nonetheless, in respect of those events, it is strongly recommended that a working rear red light, either flashing or constant, is fitted to the machine in a position visible to following road users and is active while the machine is in use.
