After the disappointment of failing to defend his National 24-Hour Championships due to a crash, Andy Jackson (AeroCoach) returns to action on Sunday in the Otley CC 50 in North Yorkshire.

One of a raft of 50-mile time trials taking place across the country this weekend, the Otley CC event near Dishforth sees National Veterans 50-Mile Champion Jackson start as pre-race favourite.

Others to watch in the event include triathlete Philip Graves (VC York), Richard Dean (Rockingham CC) and Hayden Allen (THRE Datawolves RT).

There is also a good field for the VC Cumbria 50 near Braithwaite, where Paul Fleming (Preston Wheelers) is last man off, while Andrew Whiteside (Bella in Sella Racing) will also be going for the win.

And of the women, Karen Taylor (Team Sportslab) and Deborah Moss (Team Merlin) will be among the fast ladies.

Welsh 50-mile champion Conrad Moss (NOPINZ) looks likely to take victory in the Cardiff 100 Miles RCC 50-mile event near Raglan in Gwent, where others to watch out for include Anthony Jones (Towy Riders CC), Matt Burden (73 Degrees Bicycles) and Philip Tucker (Cycle Specific).

On paper Andrea Parish (VeloSistas TT Team) is the quickest of the women, but she will be challenged by Michelle Lee (PDQ Cycle Coaching) as well as Claire Bird (Pontypool RCC).

In the North East, it’s the Northumberland District 50-Mile Championship staged by South Shields Velo on the M5010 Pegswood course.

Ben Lane (GS Metro) is last off, but watch out for the likes of Graham Crammond (Team Swift) and Lewis Timmins (Team Swift). And their Team Swift colleague Gemma Frost is a good bet for the women’s prize.

Junior ace Caitlin Peters (Storey Racing) is off just after rival Kirsty McSeveney (a3crg) in the Sotonia CC 10 near Lyndhurst on Sunday, where Matthew Buckley (Andover Wheelers) is the last man off.

Elsewhere, in Cornwall there’s a 25-mile time trial being staged by Lanhydrock Wheelers near Bodmin on Sunday, while over in Suffolk the Stowmarket and District CC are putting on a ten mile event near Campsey Ash.

Birch is the venue for the Essex Roads CC 24-mile event on Sunday, while Shropshire CCA are holding a four-up 50-kilometre event near Edgmond.

Saturday’s events include the VC Norwich 25 near Attleborough, while Manchester and District Wheelers are putting on a 50-mile time trial near Goostrey.

North Holmwood in Surrey is the venue for the South Eastern RC 10, while over the same distance Beacon Wheelers are staging an event near Newbiggin on Lune in Cumbria, and Rutland CC are hosting a ten near Hatfield Woodhouse in South Yorkshire.
